Women in Construction
and the
Nontraditional Employment &
Training Project
Please join NAWIC during March’s Women in Construction Week for a presentation by Dr. Dina
Refki, Director of the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society (CWGCS), Rockefeller
College of Public Affairs & Policy, University at Albany, State University of New York. She will
discuss the status of women in the construction industry, explore the critical need to increase
the number of women, and examine the need for more effective strategies to recruit and retain
women in the industry. She will share best practices and lessons learned from the research and
practice literature that have proven effective in attracting women to, and retaining them in the
industry.
The Center for Women in Government & Civil Society (CWGCS) seeks to deepen and broaden
political access and economic opportunities for women by strengthening the capacity of
government, nonprofit and business sectors to implement gender-responsive, inclusive and
equitable policies, practices and services. The Center administers the Nontraditional
Employment & Training (NET) Project. The NET Project provides statewide technical assistance
to Career and Technical Education institutions that sponsor Carl D. Perkins funded programs for
nontraditional career options. The NET project is sponsored by the New York State Department
of Education.
