Window Pane Fly/ Soldier Fly Family: Stratiomyidae The adult seems to mimic mud daubers, with their longer antennae and close size and color. They have a characteristic ‘window pane’ in their abdomen, which might make the fly have a narrow-looking ‘wasp waist’. These flies are great for composting animal waste, and are often used in chicken houses as a wastemanagement control. Adults are usually found on flowers and are not pests like houseflies.
