Dear Student,
I am pleased to offer you graduate assistantship support while you pursue your
"[Click here and type degree objective]" degree from "[Click here and type starting date]" until
"[Click here and enter ending date]" . This is a "[Click here and enter percentage]" % time research
assistantship which will pay $"[Click here and enter monthly stipend]" /month. By accepting this assistantship,
you will pay a reduced tuition fee of $25 per semester instead of full tuition, which for the 2015-2016 year is
$3,850 for in-state students and $11,500 for out-of-state students. This award and the tuition reduction are
designed to aid you in the pursuit of study or research. You will have a "[Click here and enter hours required]"
hour per week work obligation assigned by me that will contribute to your scholarly development.
You will be obligated to pay mandated student fees. For spring 2016, these are $1,129 and include services of
the University Health Center and Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities as well as transportation,
athletic, technology, and activity fees. Lab courses may charge lab fees which are not included in the mandated
university student fees.
All students on assistantship are required to have health insurance and mandatory health insurance premiums
will be deducted from your assistantship paycheck unless you qualify to opt out of the University System’s
health insurance plan. A portion of the premium for the University System’s health insurance plan is paid by
the University of Georgia. Further information on health insurance is available at
http://www.hr.uga.edu/mandatory-plan .
If you accept this award, you must register for a minimum of eighteen (18) credit hours per semester during the
fall and spring semesters and eighteen (18) during the summer semester. The assistantship will be withdrawn if
you are placed on academic probation, exhibit gross negligence of duty, fail to make satisfactory progress
toward your degree objective, or if financial emergencies arise and the major professor has no funds to
continue the assistantship. Retention of the assistantship is also dependent upon a satisfactory annual
evaluation of your academic performance, research performance and other performance areas, such as
teaching, professional activities, etc., as completed by the major professor.
Please complete and sign the attached Graduate Assistantship Commitment form and return it to Dr. Harrison.
Sincerely,
