Bonus Quiz
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Name___________________
This bonus quiz opportunity is due on or before the final exam. I hope you have fun and that you come back again with your family and
friends. Your assignment is to relax, have fun, and enjoy yourself. Do not touch any artworks. The art is original and very delicate. Stay at
least two feet from the artworks. For bonus credit, print out this page, visit the museum and write your answers succinctly (briefly) on this
page after each question. Use a notebook for support, not a wall. Use sentences and/or paragraphs. WRITE SMALL! A current museum pamphlet
or brochure will help. You can also ask for information at the front desk of the Law building. This can be turned in anytime until the final exam.

Please note: If you bring your college I.D. and this worksheet you can get in free! Just show the receptionist(s) these items and tell them that
you are a college student "on assignment". Please be patient with the receptionist(s) if there is any problem. Always be civil, but you already
knew that. If you plan to bring a friend, see the museum website for admission prices.
1. Ordinarily, what is the cost to visit this museum?
2.
Name and briefly describe all of the current exhibitions (except the special ticketed events) and collections from the
Caroline Weiss Law Building and the Audrey Jones Beck Building. Make sure to realize that the exhibitions and collections
are not the individual works. See the gallery guide or the website for a handy summary of the exhibitions:
http://www.mfah.org/exhibitions/ and collections: http://www.mfah.org/art/collections/ Name your favorite and least
favorite exhibition or collection and briefly tell why you did/didn’t like it. Attach a page or use the back of this page as
needed.
3. Which individual artwork was your favorite and why?
4. How do movies shown at the museum differ from movies shown at regular cineplexes? How
much do they cost?
5.
Visit the Sculpture Garden. Tell me about the general setting and describe some of the details of what you see. Also, name
your favorite and least favorite sculpture. Also, briefly tell why you did/did not like the pieces of sculpture you selected.
6.
Find William Bouguereau’s The Elder Sister and The Light Inside by James Turrell (hint: The Light Inside is the Wilson
Tunnel). Compare and contrast these two works. Are they both art for you? Which one is better art for you and why? In
what ways do they use light, color and space? Are they representational, abstract, or nonobjective?
Super Bonus… Add one point for each of the following answers.
