6. Reason for this curriculum action:
The purpose of this curriculum action is to reduce the time to complete the Information Processing AAS degree by
providing a wider choice of courses available to students who are nearing graduation. This proposal also reduces the
number of units required for some students with prior work experience.
The number of credits for BUSN 193v is reduced from 3 to 2 for students with prior work experience in an appropriate
position. The student must apply for a reduction in credits and provide evidence of employment. The student's request
must be approved jointly by the program coordinators for Co-Operative Education and Business Technology.
By changing BUSN 237 from a required course to a program elective we are providing our students with a wider range
of courses to choose from in their last semester. Because this course is only offered once per year, students who do not
take it at the appropriate time may have to delay completion of the program for up to a year.
In addition to increasing the number of program elective credits from 3 to 6, three new courses were added to the list of
program electives and three classes were taken off of the list. We have added BUSN 237, ACC 201, and ICS 214. All of
these courses allow our AAS students to deepen their understanding of subjects that they have already begun to develop,
and each of these courses has been scheduled regularly. The courses that have been removed are those that have not
been offered recently. Students would still have the option to take these classes if they become available. They include:
