exploration, planning and decisions. Emphasizes

self-assessment, world of work information, survey

of occupational clusters and related academic

preparation relevant to self-assessed interests and

values and decision-making.

5. General Course Objectives

Introduces the student to understanding the components of career, personal, and educational awareness. It also focuses on learning the career/life development process which once learned will prepare students to cope with additional career/life decisions in later life.

IS 105 fulfills three credits of the general education requirements of the A. A.

Liberal Arts degree.

6. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: a. describe the process of career development; b. discuss the role their self-concept plays in career decision making; c. identify and prioritize their own interests, skills, personality traits, and values; d. demonstrate the ability the use values clarification, decision making, and time management techniques in developing a career/life plan; e. describe the changing roles of men and women in the work force; f. explain federal laws regarding age, sex, and other discriminations; g. discuss the resources available to them for engaging in career exploration; h. prepare a career interest list for continued exploration; i. explain why career decision-making is a lifelong process.
