The following apply to the performance of all elements of this unit standard:
a All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite health and safety and environmental procedures (where these exceed the
code) for personal, product, and worksite health and safety, and must meet the
obligations required under current legislation, including the Health and Safety in
Employment Act 1992, the Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent
amendments.
b All work practices must meet documented worksite operating procedures. This
includes the recording (by electronic or non-electronic means) of activities, events,
and decisions.
c All evidence of communications gathered in relation to this unit standard must be
in accordance with worksite procedures for content, recipient, timing, and method.

Definitions
Wood manufacturing refers to solid wood, pulp and paper, wood panels, or wood
product manufacturing.
Worksite documentation refers to instructions to staff on policy and procedures
(including the application of legislation to worksite situations) which are formally
documented, and are available for reference at the worksite. Examples are standard
operating procedures, specifications, manuals, and manufacturer's information.
Process consumables refers to wrapping and strapping materials; gluts; bearers;
fillets, marking inks and paints; lubrication oil; labels; banners; saw blades; sander
belts; or similar materials used in the manufacture, finishing and despatch of wood
products. Evidence is required of three consumables.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Place process consumables in storage in a wood manufacturing operation.
Performance criteria
1.1
Storage requirements are matched to type of process consumables.
1.2
Process consumables are stored on site using the stock location system in
accordance with worksite documentation.
1.3
Equipment used in storing process consumables is used in accordance with
worksite documentation.
1.4
Procedures used to place process consumables in storage comply with worksite
documentation.

Element 2
Maintain process consumables in storage in a wood manufacturing operation.
Performance criteria
2.1
The condition of process consumables is monitored, and corrective actions are
taken in accordance with product requirements, and worksite documentation.
Range
product requirements may include but are not limited to – dust
free, dryness, humidity, temperature, dangerous or hazardous
goods.
2.2
Process consumables are rotated in accordance with worksite documentation.
2.3
The process used to ensure stock levels of the process consumables are
maintained at required levels, is described in accordance with worksite
documentation.
2.4
Housekeeping of storage areas is maintained in accordance with worksite
documentation.
Element 3
Describe systems used to prevent damage and wastage of process consumables in a
wood manufacturing operation.
Performance criteria
3.1
Conditions that could cause damage to process consumables are identified.
3.2
Routines to prevent damage to process consumables are described in
accordance with the reference text and worksite documentation.
3.3
Factors that could cause wastage of process consumables are identified in
accordance with the reference text.
3.4
Routines to prevent wastage of process consumables are described in
accordance with the reference text and worksite documentation.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
