They may refer to manuals, manufacturer's specifications, codes of practice, or policy statements. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Demonstrate knowledge of the mule spinning machine. Performance criteria 1.1 Mule spinning machine parts are described in terms of function and operation. Range machine controls, creel and carriage, spindle, faller, counter faller, weights, draft clutch, spindle build. Element 2 Comply with company and statutory health, safety, and environment requirements. Performance criteria 2.1 Company-supplied clothing, and hygiene and safety equipment and materials, are worn and used according to workplace procedures and statutory requirements. 2.2 Work methods comply with workplace procedures and statutory requirements to minimise the risk of ill-health and injuries to self and others. 2.3 Unsafe and unhealthy conditions are identified and reported according to workplace procedures and statutory requirements. Element 3 Prepare and operate a mule spinning machine. Performance criteria 3.1 Machine is operated in accordance with workplace procedures. 3.2 Spinning machine is prepared for operation in accordance with workplace procedures. Range 3.3 card slubbing identified, creel loaded, machine threaded, uptake packages in place, piecened up, package build adjusted, machine in starting position, TPM and direction set. Range 3.5 supply creel maintained, full packages doffed, pulling back, end breaks mended, backing off and counter faller height adjusted, production weighed and identified according to workplace requirement, test samples taken according to workplace practice. Records are kept in accordance with workplace procedures. Element 4 Identify and fix operational and product faults. Performance criteria 4.1 Corrective action is taken to rectify yarn faults identified during processing, in accordance with workplace procedures. Range 4.2 slubs, thick and thin yarn, excessive end breaks, contamination, uneven blending. Spinning machine malfunction is identified and corrective action taken in accordance with workplace procedures. Range wire height, wire wear, TPM variation, spindle build. Element 5 Clean spinning machine and work area. Performance criteria 5.1 Spinning machine and work area are kept clear of fibre and waste to prevent contamination in accordance with workplace procedures. Range machine, work area, trolleys, bobbins or spools, spindles. 5.2 Spinning machine is cleaned at batch end in accordance with workplace procedures. 5.3 Waste is collected and sorted in accordance with workplace procedures. 5.4 Cleanliness of equipment and work area complies with workplace procedures. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
