Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Describe the wool pressing process, and press wool as directed. Performance criteria 1.1 Wool pressing process is described in terms of hazards, set-up, and operating sequence, and the Shearing Handbook and Wool Pressing Handbook. 1.2 Wool press and associated equipment are prepared for pressing as directed. 1.3 Wool is checked, confirmed, loaded into press, and pressed as directed. 1.4 Wool bale is closed in a safe and timely manner. 1.5 Bales are branded, numbered, cross checked and stacked as directed. 1.6 The wool press area is maintained in a condition that allows effective work flow and minimal contamination of wool. Range clean, tidy, free of obstruction and rubbish. Element 2 Assist with penning up of sheep. Performance criteria 2.1 Mobs to be kept separate are identified and checked in accordance with onfarm procedures. Range breed type, sex, age, wool length. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 15050 version 3 Page 3 of 3 2.2 Sheep are penned causing minimal stress to animals and avoiding injury to self or animal. 2.3 Sheep are handled in accordance with the Code of Recommendations and Minimum Standards for the Welfare of Sheep. 2.4 Sheep behaviour is described in terms of the possible threats to the handler. Range 2.5 includes but is not limited to – entire males, mother and offspring, in pen with single sheep. Sheep are penned up in a manner that minimises the risk of smothering. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
