People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of a conveyor or drum dryer; prepare and use a conveyor or drum dryer to dry yarn hanks; and carry out batch end procedures. Classification Textiles Manufacture > Textile Dyeing and Finishing Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Competency can be demonstrated on a suction drum or conveyor dryer, depending on the type of dryer installed in the workplace. 2 Performance of the elements must comply with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. 3 Definition Workplace procedures refer to the verbal or documented procedures for performing activities including health and safety, operational, environmental, and quality management requirements. They refer to manuals, manufacturer's specification, codes of practice, or policy statements. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of a conveyor or drum dryer. Evidence requirements 1.1 Dryer and related equipment are described in terms of function and operation. Range may include but is not limited to – yarn feed section, conveyor belt or suction drums, fans, energy supply, yarn exit section. Outcome 2 Prepare and use a conveyor or drum dryer to dry yarn hanks. Range 2.3 zone temperatures, drum or conveyor speeds, safety devices and cut-out operational, instrumentation and control devices set. Dryer is monitored during operation. Range 2.4 maintain even yarn feed, feed blockages cleared, air filters remain clear, conveyor belt alignment maintained in a conveyor dryer, dryer temperatures, yarn checked for dryness at dryer exit. Records are maintained according to workplace procedure. Outcome 3 Carry out batch end procedures. Evidence requirements 3.1 Machine and work area are cleaned to prevent contamination. Range 3.2 filters, conveyor or drums, fibre build-up in dryer chamber. Any machine faults are reported according to workplace procedures. This unit standard is expiring.
