Purpose
This unit standard is for people who currently are, or will be, involved in the
organisation and management of distribution networks in a sales
environment where third parties are responsible for the distribution of goods
and services.
People assessed as competent in this unit standard are able to identify
goods and services for distribution; monitor the performance of distributors,
and review supply and distribution arrangements.

Performance criteria
1.1
Goods and services required for distribution networks are identified and
documented.
Range
1.2
Parameters of potential markets for distribution networks are identified and
documented prior to implementation of networks.

developments, technology updates.
regulations governing entry, trade tariffs, subsidies, regulation,
deregulation of industry, competitors, strategic alliances.
Potential distributors of goods and services are identified, and capability of
distributors to deliver and meet marketing needs is determined.

corporations, governments;
capability – correct market access, strategic relationship with other
manufacturers, political awareness, integrity, cultural sensitivity.
1.4
Selected distributors maximise commercial advantage to organisation, and
selection is justified based on valid evidence and reasoned argument.
1.5
Preferred supplier status is negotiated with selected distributors, and distribution
contracts are documented and agreed.

Manage distribution networks.
Performance criteria
2.1
Distributor's performance is monitored at regular intervals, and action is taken to
optimise effectiveness and efficiency of distributor.

2.2
distributor performance – supply to market, strengths,
weaknesses, administration, relationships with other
manufacturers, political awareness, cultural sensitivity;
regular intervals – monthly, two monthly, not less than quarterly.
Opportunities for improvement of distribution network are identified and
actioned.

2.3
Distributors are informed promptly, in writing, of changes that may affect
distribution network or products being distributed.
2.4
Contingencies to minimise disruption to, and maximise return from, established
distribution networks are developed and actioned.

distributors, agents, delivery times, schedules.
2.5
Distributors are encouraged to identify and participate in events that enhance
product or service profile and maximise commercial advantage.
2.6
Distributors are encouraged to offer suggestions for product and service
improvements, and feedback on suggestions is offered promptly.

Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
