Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate
knowledge of health and safety in surveying, conduct preplanning for a surveying operation, and safely undertake a
surveying operation.

1
The following legislation and documentation must be complied with:
Health and Safety at Work Act 2015; Trespass Act 1980; Cadastral Surveying Act
2002; Public works Act 1981; Land Transfer Act 1952;
equipment manufacturer's instructions;
utility asset owners safety requirements;
equipment operator licences;
construction site safety plan;
traffic management plan.

Personal protective equipment must be used throughout operations in accordance
with company procedures.

Definition
Workplace procedures refer to documented procedures specific to an enterprise
which set out the quality management requirements for the business practice and
activities of that enterprise.

Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety in surveying.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Health and safety responsibilities of the employer and employee are explained
in accordance with legislative requirements.

Actions to be taken in the event of a workplace accident and incident are
outlined in accordance with legislative requirements.
Outcome 2
Conduct pre-planning for a specific surveying operation.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Survey brief is confirmed in accordance with workplace procedures.
2.2
Requirements for safe access to worksite are explained in accordance with
legislation and workplace procedures.
2.3
Communications with a client, landowner, neighbours and/or site supervisor in
relation to site operations are explained in accordance with workplace
procedures.
2.4
Emergency procedures are identified and explained in accordance with
workplace procedures.
Outcome 3
Safely undertake a surveying operation.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Appropriate personal protective equipment is identified and worn at all times
during operations in accordance with workplace procedures and/or site safety
plan.
3.2
All surveying equipment is secured in accordance with workplace procedures
and/or the traffic management plan.
Range
secured – while travelling, when unattended.
3.3
Access to the worksite meets the requirements of legislation and workplace
procedures.
3.4
The person in charge of the site is notified, and requested to identify safety
hazards on site in accordance with workplace procedures.
3.5
Safe methods of working are followed in accordance with workplace
procedures, legislation, and/or local/regional authority requirements.
3.6
The survey team’s intended whereabouts are notified in accordance with
workplace procedures.
3.7
During property access, discretion is exercised, behaviour and activities avoid
confrontation and maintain safety, worksite is left as found in accordance with
workplace procedures.

The property is left in a safe, tidy condition at the end of the working day.

which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
