Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Describe handling requirements for captured rock lobster in accordance with company requirements. Performance criteria 1.1 The description includes handling requirements for captured rock lobster in terms of minimising physical damage to both those retained on board as catch and those returned to the water. 1.2 The description includes handling requirements for captured rock lobster in terms of sex and size determination, and compliance with fisheries law. 1.3 The description includes handling requirements for harvested rock lobster in terms of the maintenance of product safety and quality. 1.4 The description includes handling requirements for harvested rock lobster in terms of the operating requirements of the live tank. Element 2 Participate in the baiting and setting of rock lobster pots. Performance criteria 2.1 Rock lobster pots are baited in accordance with company requirements. 2.2 Rock lobster pots are set safely, consistent with the fishing environment, and in accordance with company requirements. 2.3 Waste from the process of baiting and setting rock lobster pots is disposed of in accordance with company requirements. Element 3 Participate in the retrieval of rock lobster pots, and the landing of captured rock lobster. Performance criteria 3.1 Rock lobster pots are retrieved safely, consistent with minimising damage to the vessel and rock lobster, in accordance with company requirements. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 20934 version 2 Page 3 of 3 3.2 Captured rock lobster is handled in compliance with fisheries law, the maintenance of product safety and quality, and in accordance with company requirements. 3.3 Waste from the retrieved pots is disposed of in accordance with company requirements. Element 4 Demonstrate knowledge of, and participate in the inspection and repair of rock lobster pots. Performance criteria 4.1 The description details the legal requirements consistent with fisheries law for rock lobster pot dimensions. Range escape gaps, entrance hole. 4.2 Rock lobster pot inspection and repair is consistent with fisheries law and the prevention of gear failure in accordance with company requirements. 4.3 Rock lobster pot repair is carried out safely and in accordance with accepted rock lobster harvesting practice. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
