Element 1
Carry out daily routine husbandry checks of grower pigs.
Performance criteria
1.1
Environmental conditions are checked and reported, and adjustments made, in
accordance with on-farm procedures and the welfare code.

The health of growers is checked, problems are identified and reported, and
remedial action is taken, in accordance with on-farm procedures and the
welfare code.

Element 2
Check and report on feed supplies, and feed grower pigs.
Performance criteria
2.1
Feed storage bins are checked for condition and adequate supply of feed, and
feed supply shortages are reported, in accordance with on-farm procedures.
2.2
Hoppers, troughs, and pens are checked, and stale and/or contaminated feed
removed prior to dispensing fresh feed, in accordance with on-farm procedures.
2.3
Feeding equipment is calibrated to dispense accurate feed levels in accordance
with manufacturer’s instructions.
2.4
Safety equipment and clothing are worn when feeding pigs in accordance with
on-farm procedures.
2.5
Growers are fed the diet appropriate to that class of stock in accordance with
the feed schedule, on-farm procedures, and the welfare code.

2.6
Growers that are not eating are identified and reported, and remedial action is
taken, in accordance with on-farm procedures.
2.7
Identified water supply problems are dealt with and/or reported in accordance
with on-farm procedures.
Element 3
Monitor grower pig growth.
Performance criteria
3.1
Pigs in monitor pens are identified and checked in accordance with on-farm
procedures.
3.2
Pigs are weighed with minimal stress and without injury to pigs or handler(s) in
accordance with on-farm procedures.
3.3
Pig weights and ages are recorded in accordance with on-farm procedures.
3.4
Grower pig growth rates are calculated and compared in terms of specified
target figures.
3.5
Growers with growth rates below specified target figures are identified and
reported in accordance with on-farm procedures.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
