Purpose
This unit standard is for people who are currently working, or intending to
work, in bicycle repair workshops.
People credited with this unit standard are able to adjust bicycles for size and
use of riders, and fit bicycle accessories.

Assessment evidence must be provided while carrying out commercial jobs in the
workplace under normal workplace conditions.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Adjust bicycles for size and use of riders.
Range
bicycles – BMX, multi-speed, front suspension;
size – children and adults of different heights;
use – road cycling, off road cycling (mountain biking and BMX biking), touring.
Performance criteria
1.1
Frame size matches rider’s size and use according to manufacturer’s
specifications.
1.2
Seat setting matches rider’s size according to manufacturer’s specifications.
Range
1.3
seat – height, angle, positional rails;
rider’s size – height, length of arms and legs.
Handlebars and stem settings match rider’s size according to manufacturer’s
specifications.
Range
handlebars and stem settings – height, length, angle, width, lever
reach; rider’s size – height, length of arms, length of fingers.

Clipless pedal settings match rider’s needs.
Range

Tools and equipment used enable bicycles to be adjusted according to
workshop requirements.

Bicycles are adjusted to meet the requirements of AS/NZS 1927:1998.
Element 2
Fit bicycle accessories.
Range
accessories – lights, reflectors, mudguards, trainer wheels, toe clips,
shoes/pedals, helmets, child carrier seats, carriers, seat bags, computers.
Performance criteria
2.1
Accessories are fitted according to manufacturer’s procedures and
specifications.
2.2
Tools and equipment used enable accessories to be fitted according to
workshop requirements.
2.3
Accessories are fitted according to the relevant Australian/New Zealand
Standard.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
