Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to conduct aircraft hold safety
checks before loading and after unloading, and operate in-hold transfer
systems for loading or unloading aircraft.

ULD refers to Unit Load Device, which is a generic term for a container loaded into
an aircraft.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Conduct aircraft hold safety checks before loading and after unloading.
Performance criteria
1.1
Aircraft hold is checked for damage in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Range
1.2
may include but is not limited to – door surrounds, locks, guide
bars, hold wall and ceiling, hold fittings.
Lock positions are set and checked in accordance with task and load
configuration.
Range
may include but is not limited to – originating load, transfer load,
no fits.
Element 2
Operate in-hold transfer systems for loading or unloading aircraft.
Performance criteria
2.1
In-hold controls are identified in accordance with aircraft type and enterprise
procedures.
Range
2.2
may include but is not limited to – power on/off, isolation switches,
drive controls.
In-hold transfer system is operated to manoeuvre ULDs into position in the hold
in accordance with aircraft type and enterprise procedures.
Range
in-hold transfer system may include but is not limited to –
retractable drive wheels for sideways, forward and backward
positioning, retractable splitter rails for small containers, guide
rails, ball mats, roller mats.
2.3
Locks and cargo nets are set in appropriate position after loading in accordance
with aircraft type and enterprise procedures.
2.4
In-hold transfer system is operated to manoeuvre ULDs from the hold to the
loader in accordance with aircraft type and enterprise procedures.
Range
in-hold transfer system may include but is not limited to –
retractable drive wheels for sideways, forward and backward
positioning, retractable splitter rails for small containers, guide
rails, ball mats, roller mats.

Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
