NZQA registered unit standard 2759 version 9 Page 1 of 4 Title Perform hairdressing services in a commercial salon Level 5 Purpose Credits 15 This unit standard is for people in the hairdressing industry who have built a client base providing a range of hairdressing services in a commercial salon where they are currently employed. People credited with this unit standard are able to perform hairdressing services while working in a commercial salon over a four-week continuous period, and perform hairdressing services to meet the commercial requirements of a hairdressing salon. Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Legislative requirements refer to the obligations of the employer and/or employee under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Health (Hairdressers) Regulations 1980, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), Privacy Act 1993, Human Rights Act 1993, Smoke-free Environments Act 1990, Fire Safety and Evacuation of Buildings Regulations 2006, and enterprise fire and emergency policies and procedures. Minimum number of clients per week means at least 25 clients receiving hairdressing services from the candidate per 30 hour working week. 2 For credit, performance of client services will be assessed over at least a four-week continuous period of work in a commercial salon. 3 For outcome 2, two different clients are required. 4 In this unit standard all work must comply with legislative requirements and must ensure optimum hair condition and maximum client comfort at all times. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Perform hairdressing services while working in a commercial salon over a four-week continuous period. Range The number of clients receiving a chemical service is not less than 15% of total clients receiving hairdressing services per week. Evidence requirements 1.1 A minimum number of clients per week receive hairdressing services in accordance with hairdressing professional standards, and salon and legislative requirements. 1.2 The performance of retail sales is recorded in accordance with industry standards and salon requirements. Range original service, problem requiring correction. Outcome 2 Perform hairdressing services to meet the commercial requirements of a hairdressing salon. Range salon requirements may include but are not limited to – reception and administration duties, selling products and services, direction and supervision of staff; client requirements include – client expectations, client comfort, client safety. Evidence requirements 2.1 The client’s needs are analysed and confirmed, relevant hairdressing services are conducted in accordance with industry standards and salon requirements.
