Purpose
This unit standard is for people in the hairdressing industry who wish to
develop skills in hair moulding and manipulating hair using a variety of
techniques.
People credited with this unit standard are able to mould and scale hair using
a variety of techniques, and complete follow up actions.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Mould and scale hair using a variety of techniques.
Range
long centre, short centre, long side and short side partings; radial and parallel
distribution; oval, half oval, circle, half circle, oblong, diamond, square, triangle.
Performance criteria
1.1
Hydrogen bonds are broken.
1.2
Prepared hair is able to be manipulated from roots to ends.
1.3
Assembled tools match requirements of manipulation techniques.
Range
1.4
tail comb, cutting comb, sectioning clips.
Hair is moulded and scaled in clean and clear directions.
Element 2
Complete follow up actions.
Performance criteria
2.1
Tools and equipment are sanitised in accordance with workplace requirements.
2.2
The work area is cleaned and tidied in accordance with workplace
requirements.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
