People credited with this unit standard are able to: complete a fashion wind permanent wave service; complete a creative multi-shading service with permanent colours; and complete a complex long hair style service. Commercially acceptable time varies for different hairdressing services. Times reflect performance required for the economic viability of a trading salon; creative means freedom to use all ideas; fashion means non-basic work which can include, but is not limited to, competitiontype styling; industry techniques are those stipulated in the evidence guides to candidates provided by the Hairdressing Industry Training Organisation; legislative requirements refer to the obligations of the employer and/or employee under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Health (Hairdressers) Regulations 1980, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), Privacy Act 1993, Human Rights Act 1993, Smoke-free Environments Act 1990, Fire Safety and Evacuation of Buildings Regulations 2006, and enterprise fire and emergency policies and procedures. 2 It is a requirement of industry that assessment against this unit standard should take place within the context of the candidate seeking award for the National Certificate in Hairdressing (Professional Stylist) [Ref: 0022]. 3 To reflect commercially acceptable time all elements will be assessed in two modules of three hours (total six hours) and work in progress will not be carried forward from the first module to the second module. 4 In this unit standard all work must comply with legislative requirements and must ensure optimum hair condition and maximum client comfort at all times. 5 Useful references for this unit standard include the Employers’ Training Manual, and the Training Record Book. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Complete a fashion wind permanent wave service. Range must include a fashion scissor and/or razor cut and must also include a fashion set or fashion blow wave. Performance criteria 1.1 The client’s needs are analysed and confirmed with the client, and techniques and objectives relevant to needs are determined and specified. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 2757 version 5 Page 3 of 4 1.2 Chemical processes are conducted following industry techniques, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and to meet the confirmed objective. 1.3 The hair is fashion scissor cut and/or razor cut following industry techniques and to meet the confirmed objective. 1.4 The hair is fashion set or fashion blow waved following industry techniques and to meet the confirmed objective. 1.5 The client is advised about home hair care for the client’s hair type and service completed. 1.6 Hair service and process results are recorded in accordance with salon requirements. 1.7 Tools and equipment are sanitised in accordance with legislative requirements. Element 2 Complete a creative multi-shading service with permanent colours. Range must include a fashion scissor and/or razor cut, and a fashion blow wave or fashion set not already demonstrated. Performance criteria 2.1 The client’s needs are analysed and confirmed, and techniques and objectives relevant to needs are determined and specified. 2.2 Chemical processes are conducted following industry techniques, and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and to meet the confirmed objectives. Range includes but is not limited to – conducting a predisposition test for allergies. 2.3 The hair is fashion scissor and/or razor cut following industry techniques and to meet the confirmed objective. 2.4 The hair is fashion blow waved or fashion set following industry techniques and to meet the confirmed objective. 2.5 The client is advised about home hair care for the client’s hair type and service completed. 2.6 Hair service and process results are recorded according to salon requirements. 2.7 Tools and equipment are sanitised in accordance with legislative requirements. Performance criteria 3.1 The client’s needs are analysed and confirmed and techniques and objectives to meet needs are determined and specified. 3.2 The style is executed in a commercially acceptable time following industry techniques to meet the confirmed objective. Range incorporating one or more accessories. 3.3 The client is advised of after service care to maintain the style. 3.4 Hair service and process results are recorded in accordance with salon requirements. 3.5 Tools and equipment are sanitised according to legislative requirements. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
