NZQA registered unit standard 28835 version 1 Page 1 of 3 Title Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of colour for use in hairdressing, and the use of non-oxidative colour Level 2 Credits Purpose 2 This unit standard is for people in the hairdressing industry who wish to gain basic knowledge of hair colour and non-oxidative colour. People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of: the fundamentals of colour for use in hairdressing, and the use of non-oxidative colour. Classification Beauty Services > Hairdressing Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Following service may include but is not limited to – haircut, blow wave. Legislative requirements refer to the obligations of the employer and/or employee under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Health (Hairdressers) Regulations 1980. Non-oxidative hair colour refers to temporary colour and semi-permanent colour. Semi-permanent colour refers to a colour that lasts 4-6 washes and does not require mixing with a developer. Temporary colour refers to water-based product. 2 In this unit standard all work must comply with legislative requirements and must ensure optimum hair condition and maximum client comfort at all times. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of colour for use in hairdressing. Evidence requirements 1.1 The origin of colour is explained in terms of reflection and absorption. 1.2 The colour wheel, and all its components, is drawn and explained in terms of colour type. Range primary, secondary, tertiary, counter colours. Range 1.4 counteracting unwanted colour reflects, enhancing colour reflects. Hair colour is described in terms of its effect on the hairshaft. Outcome 2 Demonstrate knowledge of the use of non-oxidative colour. Evidence requirements 2.1 The selection of non-oxidative hair colour is explained in terms of matching hair and scalp, and confirmed outcome. 2.2 The process of applying non-oxidative hair colour is explained in terms of client protection, preparation of hair, application techniques, and coverage of colour.
