Definition
Primary poultry processing machinery refers to stun, kill, scalder, pluck and head pull
poultry.

Competence is to be demonstrated on at least three occasions of setting up,
adjusting and operating primary poultry processing machinery and primary poultry
processing production line.

Element 1
Set up and adjust primary poultry processing machinery in the kill room.
Performance criteria
1.1
Primary poultry processing machinery is set up and adjusted in accordance with
the size of the poultry to be processed and the company quality assurance
policies and procedures.
1.2
Primary poultry processing machinery is set up and adjusted in accordance with
the company operating procedures.
1.3
Primary poultry processing machinery is set up and adjusted in accordance with
the company safety policies and procedures.
Element 2
Start up a primary poultry processing line.
Performance criteria
2.1
Pre-start-up checks and start-up procedures are carried out in accordance with
the company operating and quality policies and procedures.
2.2
Pre-start-up checks and start-up procedures are carried out in accordance with
the company safety policies and procedures.

Shut-down procedures are in accordance with the company operating
procedures.
4.2
Shut-down procedures are in accordance with the company safety policies and
procedures.
4.3
Shut-down contingencies are assessed and handled in accordance with the
company operating procedures.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
