People credited with this unit standard are able: to use safe working practices, prepare to process, process, and store inedible by-products for petfood production. PPE refers to personal protective equipment and may include but is not limited to: protective clothing, gloves, safety glasses/headwear/footwear, hearing protection, safety devices. Agreed indicates that a course of action is: a agreed between two or more people (including the assessee) – eg action completed in an agreed timeframe, and/or b contained in stated policy and/or procedures (made known to the assessee) as being the required performance standard – eg location for filing documentation. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Use safe working practices. Performance Criteria 1.1 PPE is used in accordance with organisational procedures. 1.2 Work environment is clean and free from hazards in accordance with organisational procedures. Range 1.3 hazards to – personnel, product, plant. Process documentation is referred to and/or completed in accordance with organisational procedures. Element 2 Prepare to process inedible by-products for petfood production. Performance criteria 2.1 Documentation is available, is in order and complies with organisational procedures, prior to processing. 2.2 The functions of documentation components are explained in terms of organisational procedures and legislative requirements. 2.3 Equipment for processing is clean, free from contaminants, and fit for purpose within agreed timeframe. 2.4 Processes for checking that by-products for processing conform to production specifications are in accord with organisational procedures. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 18074 version 4 Page 3 of 4 2.5 Containers for holding product are clean, identify intended contents, and are available in sufficient quantity for scheduled and anticipated processing, in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.6 Lifting and handling techniques used are in accordance with best practice for injury prevention, in accordance with organisational procedures. Element 3 Process inedible by-products for petfood production. Performance criteria 3.1 Inedible products are processed and available for production within agreed timeframe. 3.2 Processed product conforms to organisational procedures. 3.3 Processing of inedible by-products complies with organisational procedures and legislation. 3.4 Production constraints are handled in accordance with organisational procedures. 3.5 Product wastage due to processing is minimised, and opportunities to lessen waste through equipment control methods are optimised, in accordance with organisational procedures. Element 4 Store inedible by-products for petfood production. Performance criteria 4.1 Processed product is stored in an environment that protects the product’s integrity, in accordance with organisational procedures. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
