Definitions
Worksite procedure refers to the documented
procedures for the machine and/or worksite.
Statutory requirements may include but is not limited to
the relevant sections of the New Zealand Building Code
and the relevant standards such as the New Zealand
Standard (NZS) 3000:1997, Electrical Installations Buildings, Structures and Premises, and NZS
4332:1997, Non-Domestic Passenger and Goods Lifts.

All work practices must meet recognised codes of
practice and documented worksite safety procedures
(where these exceed code) for personal, product and
worksite safety, and must meet the obligations required
under current legislation. Legislation includes but is not
limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act
(1992), and its subsequent amendments.

Respond to trapped passenger release requests.
performance criteria
1.1
Details of the task are received, analysed, confirmed, and recorded in
accordance with worksite procedure prior to movement to the site.
1.2
Resources required for the job, including equipment, materials, and tools are
identified, selected, prepared, and transported to the site according to worksite
procedure.
1.3
Co-ordination issues with others involved or affected by the work are resolved
according to worksite procedure.

Prepare for the release process.
performance criteria
2.1
On arrival at the site, the parameters of the situation are confirmed according to
worksite procedure.
Range:
parameters to be confirmed include - the specific lift car involved,
the location of the lift car in the shaft, the clients interpretation of
the situation, the numbers and details of passengers, any
immediate medical or emergency support requirement.
2.2
Passengers are re-assured that assistance is underway and are sensitively
advised of their requirements regarding safety and doors according to worksite
procedure.
2.3
Passengers’ needs are identified and responded to within the constraints
imposed by the situation and according to worksite procedure.
2.4
Appropriate emergency service support is arranged including medical and paramedical support according to worksite procedure.
2.5
Personal conduct and demeanour is controlled and framed to promote
confidence and avoid a panic situation according to worksite procedure.

Release trapped passengers.
performance criteria
3.1
The fault situation is assessed and the lift is made operational, or the circuit
breaker is isolated, according to worksite procedure.
3.2
Lift is moved at a controlled speed to the selected floor if the conditions allow
according to worksite procedure.
3.3
Passengers are reassured and kept informed of actions at all times according
to worksite procedure.
3.4
Passengers are assisted to exit from the lift car according to worksite
procedure.
3.5
General condition of passengers is observed, recorded, and reported in
accordance with statutory requirements and worksite procedure.

Restore the lift to service.
performance criteria
4.1
Once passengers are released, the lift and site are secured for public safety
according to worksite procedure.
4.2
Lift is inspected, repairs carried out, and the lift returned to service, or isolated
pending further repairs, according to worksite procedure.

4.3
Reports and documents are completed and processed in accordance with
statutory requirements and worksite procedure.
