Purpose
This unit standard is for people working in the hydrography sector of the
surveying profession.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: create and define survey
parameters using hydrographic software; monitor data acquisition process
using hydrographic software; and process collected data using hydrographic
software.

Element 1
Define and configure survey parameters using hydrographic software.
Performance criteria
1.1
Survey parameters are defined in accordance with job specifications and
HYSPEC.
Range
1.2
Survey sensor and peripheral parameters are configured in accordance with job
specifications, HYSPEC, and manufacturer’s instructions.
Range
1.3
includes but is not limited to – run lines, datum, spheroid
parameters, projection parameters, scale.

Data gathering parameters are set to meet job specifications.

Element 2
Monitor the data acquisition process using hydrographic software.
Performance criteria
2.1
Online data gathering processes are monitored for conformity with preset data
quality parameters in accordance with job specifications, HYSPEC, and
manufacturer’s instructions.
2.2
The data gathering process is interactively adjusted to maintain job
specifications.
Range

Process collected data using hydrographic software.
Performance criteria
3.1
Collected data are processed, checked, and edited to meet job specifications
and HYSPEC.
Range
editing processes include but are not limited to – positional
correction, depth correction, velocity of sound adjustment, tidal
reduction, depth selection.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
