In addition to a detailed departmental knowledge through one of the strands, the holder will have knowledge of the skills required in other shoemaking departments, general shoe construction and manufacturing knowledge together with the ability to specify material and component requirements, and personnel leadership and management skills. Whilst there is some overlap with the National Certificate in Footwear (Level 3) with strands in Clicking, Closing, Bottom Stock, and Making and Lasting [Ref: 0225], this level 4 national certificate will be evidence that the holder has the ability to sustain a range of management responsibilities beyond that required in an individual shoemaking department. Special Notes It is recommended that candidates already hold the following qualification: National Certificate in Footwear (Level 3) with strands in Clicking, Closing, Bottom Stock, and Making and Lasting [Ref: 0225]; or have demonstrated equivalent knowledge and skills. Award of NQF Qualifications Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The qualification was also updated to take account of a review of First Line Management unit standards. Changes to structure and content Unit standard 1984 removed from the compulsory section and replaced by unit standards 18336 and 18337. This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.
