People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify and adhere to the legal requirements of operating and maintaining a mortuary; apply personal hygiene requirements for working in a mortuary; and apply maintenance practices for a mortuary. Range requirements include but are not limited to – Building Act, Health and Safety in Employment Act, Resource Management Act, Health Act, territorial authority bylaws. 1.2 Dangerous and hazardous chemicals are stored in accordance with legislative requirements. 1.3 Personal effects of the deceased are stored or disposed of in accordance with legislative requirements. Range personal effects may include but are not limited to – jewellery, clothing, money, personal items. Outcome 2 Apply personal hygiene requirements for working in a mortuary. Evidence requirements 2.1 Personal hygiene is maintained in a mortuary in accordance with legislative requirements. Range personal hygiene includes but is not limited to – hand washing, change of clothing, full skin coverage (gown, gloves), facial protection, respiratory protection. Outcome 3 Apply maintenance practices for a mortuary. Evidence requirements 3.1 Mortuary equipment is operated in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications. 3.2 Mortuary equipment is serviced, maintained and stored in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and legislative requirements. 3.3 Mortuary is sterilised and disinfected in accordance with legislative requirements.
