Halton Theater.

SUCCESSFUL COLLABORATION OF THEATRE, OPERA,

AND DANCE FOR THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA

THE CHARLOTTE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ON CAMPUS

The Charlotte Symphony on Campus is an annual concert sponsored through the generous donation of Wilton and Catherine Conner.

In the Fall of 2015, the CSO played for 1,000

Music Appreciation students.

ASSOCIATE IN FINE ARTS ASSOCIATION

 The NCCC AFA Association was formed in 2015 to support and promote the Visual and Performing

Arts in the North Carolina Community College System. CPCC’s Carolyn Jacobs and Tom Hollis are founding members and Board Officers.

 Each AFA discipline will have its own program code in Fall 2016. Benefits include targeted advising, less confusion for students and clear identity for each discipline.

 The AFA Association/Visual Arts is now working toward a statewide articulation agreement with 4year institutions. Until this is finalized, most UNC Art programs have agreed to publish pathways for

AFA students on their webpage—similar to AA and AS pathways.

 Music and Theatre (program will officially be changed from Drama to Theatre at State level) are also looking at either a statewide articulation agreements or alignments with local universities. CPCC

Music already has this in place with UNCC.

 The AFA Association strives to promote community college programs and student success by facilitating communication between programs and universities, particularly during the annual AFA

Conference. CPCC has been asked to host the conference in 2018.

ARTS DIVISION INITIATIVES

 Proposal

 Create 3 integrated groups made up of faculty representatives from each discipline to address pressing structural needs of the Division not otherwise addressed by the college, and of strategic importance to the viability of the Division, its faculty, and students. The 3-year project will have targeted outcomes and biannual evaluations of each group’s progress and achievements. Group Leaders will rotate on/off annually.

 Marketing and Recruitment Group – Tom Hollis, Leader

 Create a supplemental recruitment and marketing strategy to increase enrollment in Curriculum and

CCE classes, and to publicize performance ensemble events through traditional means and new social media platforms available through the college

 Articulation & Transfer Agreements Group – Craig Bove, Leader

 Develop action plans to connect with targeted 4-year institutions on a person to person basis to identify current obstacles and feasible solutions leading to written articulation and transfer agreements

 AFA/AAS Degree Group – Mary Kilburn, Leader

 Develop strategies to increase enrollments into and completion out of our AFA and AAS degree programs while identifying impediments within the current sequences that prevent ready transference to 4-year institutions

ARTS DIVISION INITIATIVES CONT.

 ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO DATE (2016SP):

 Faculty attendance at statewide AFA Society Conference in February furthered conversations with 4-year institutions including UNCC, UNCW and ECU, and other community colleges like Mitchell and Rowan-Cabarrus to better serve students and develop articulation agreements.

 Dialogue with Queens University between Music departments further enhanced with

CPCCs Craig Bove acting as outside reviewer of Queens Self-Study project.

 Discussions underway to create written agreements between CPCC Interior Design program and Interior Architecture of UNC Greensboro, and Family and Consumer

Sciences program at NC Central University.

• Events have been specially curated to enhance the learning experiences of our students, and to add to the creative atmosphere of the Charlotte community.

• This year we have chosen to include Student Life as part of the festival, to ensure that we can have events to appeal to all of the students at CPCC.

• With help from culinary students, we held our first Sensoria

Fundraiser dinner. Over $4000 was raised to support the festival.

• Brochure design work was donated by WrayWard under the creative direction of a former CPCC student from Graphic Design.

• We anticipate 12,000 student and community attendees at 5 campuses

• “Literature,” is now included in the name.

• A new required Cultural

Component in Literature classes will bring over 2,000 students to the festival.
