People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare to make aluminium framing; measure and mark out aluminium framing; and make and assemble aluminium framing. Performance criteria 1.1 Customer requirements and job specifications are identified and verified in accordance with company and legislative requirements. 1.2 Tools and equipment suitable for making frames are identified and used in accordance with manufacturer specifications and legislative requirements. Range may include but is not limited to – welding equipment, drill, clamps, measuring equipment, metal cutting equipment, markers, pop riveter. 1.3 A suitable area to make and assemble the framing is identified in accordance with company requirements. 1.4 Frame material is selected in accordance with manufacturers and job specifications, and legislative requirements. Element 2 Measure and mark out aluminium framing. Performance criteria 2.1 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with legislative requirements. Range personal safety; safety of other people; workshop safety; environmental safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety. 2.2 Frame is measured and marked out in accordance with job specifications, and all markings are legible. 2.3 Frame supports are measured and marked out in accordance with job specifications, and all markings are legible. Performance criteria 3.1 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with legislative requirements. Range personal safety; safety of other people; workshop safety; environmental safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety. 3.2 Material is cut and shaped, and all measurements are accurate in accordance with job specifications and legislative requirements. 3.3 Drilling is carried out in accordance with job specifications and legislative requirements. 3.4 Frame is laid out and clamped in preparation for assembly in accordance with job specifications and legislative requirements. 3.5 Pillars to suit exterior cladding are fitted in accordance with job specifications and legislative requirements. 3.6 Reinforcing and bracing are added to frame in accordance with job specifications and legislative requirements. 3.7 Assembly of frame is carried out, and frame is joined in accordance with job specifications and legislative requirements. Range may include but is not limited to – reinforcing, welding, mechanical fastenings, adhesives. 3.8 Frame alignment measurements are checked and comply with the job specifications. 3.9 Made-up fabric is fitted on frame in accordance with job specifications and legislative requirements. 3.10 Tools and equipment are returned to their places and the work area is left clean in accordance with company requirements. Please note Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
