New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 8589 version 2 11-Dec-96 5 of 6 DIVING - OCCUPATIONAL Supervise self contained underwater diving apparatus (SCUBA) dive operations element 4 Supervise first aid requirements of operation. performance criteria 4.1 Familiarity with all the symptoms of decompression sickness and other pressure related ailments allows therapeutic treatments to be initiated. 4.2 Knowledge of pressure related ailments ensures communication with diving doctors. 4.3 Advice given by diving doctor is assessed in relation to the circumstances of the situation requiring first aid intervention. 4.4 Incidents requiring first aid treatment are managed to industry technical and safety criteria. element 5 Respond to emergency situations. performance criteria 5.1 Emergency procedures are instigated in the event of emergency. 5.2 Evacuation of installation site or vessel is initiated where required, and ensures the safe transfer of the personnel team. 5.3 Knowledge of emergency support organisations and contact procedures facilitates calls for assistance.
