Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare a schedule of civil
plant, equipment, and vehicles; evaluate the life of civil plant, equipment, and
vehicles; prepare civil plant, equipment, and vehicle replacement schedule;
and recommend purchase of replacement civil plant, equipment, and vehicles
for a given company.

Definition
Company requirements include the policy, procedures, and methodologies of the
company. They include legislative and regulatory requirements which may apply
across the company or to a specific site. Requirements are documented in the
company’s health and safety plans, traffic management plans, contract work
programmes, quality assurance programmes, policies, and procedural documents.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Prepare a schedule of civil plant, equipment, and vehicles.
Performance criteria
1.1
Schedule of plant, equipment, and vehicles includes quantity, type, year of
manufacture, year of purchase, make, model, identification and condition.
Range
1.2
for large plant includes also – engine number, chassis number,
registration number.
Records of servicing dates, repairs, overhauls, and hours of operation for
vehicle, item of plant, and item of equipment are reviewed and documented in
accordance with company requirements.
Element 2
Evaluate the life of civil plant, equipment, and vehicles.
Performance criteria
2.1
Physical condition, and any defects of plant, equipment, and vehicles, are
determined in accordance with company requirements.
2.2
Life of plant, equipment, and vehicles is evaluated and projections are made in
accordance with historical records.
2.3
Plant, equipment, and vehicles are assessed for serviceability, and availability
for work is determined in accordance with company requirements.
2.4
Plant, equipment, and vehicles are assessed for residual life in accordance with
company requirements.
2.5
Revenue earned to date is compared with projected earnings in accordance
with company requirements.
2.6
Evaluated maintenance costs are compared with projected earnings in
accordance with company requirements.

Element 3

Performance criteria
3.1
Replacement schedule records future earning capacity for plant, equipment,
and vehicles in accordance with company requirements.
3.2
Plant, equipment, and vehicles on replacement schedule are assessed in
accordance with company requirements.

expected rate of return, and trade-in values.
Plant, equipment, and vehicle replacement schedule is presented for approval
in accordance with company requirements.
Element 4
Recommend purchase of replacement civil plant, equipment, and vehicles for a given
company.
Performance criteria
4.1
Supplier's price, terms of sale, level of service, warranty, trade-in, and track
record are assessed in accordance with company requirements.
4.2
Exchange rate, purchase agreement, and delivery details are assessed for
purchase of plant, equipment, and vehicle in accordance with company
requirements.
Range
4.3
conditions agreed to between parties.
Recommendation to company management is prepared in accordance with
company requirements.
Range
plant operator feedback, fitness for purpose, prioritisation, fit to
budget.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
