Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, Resource Management Act 1991, Privacy Act 1993 and their subsequent amendments. 2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the equipment and/or workplace. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Confirm required equipment is available and in good condition before start up. Competenz SSB Code 101571 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA Expiring unit standard 3775 version 7 Page 2 of 4 Evidence requirements 1.1 Spare creasers and slitter knife blades are confirmed as being available in the work area in accordance with workplace practices. 1.2 All spare blades are confirmed as being in good condition in accordance with workplace practices. 1.3 The setting of the creasers and slitter knives on the first bar to be used are confirmed as being those specified on the job documentation. Outcome 2 Change settings of slitter knives and creasers for production. Evidence requirements 2.1 The first slitter knife is set to produce trim of not less than 5mm. 2.2 The secondary slitter knives are set to reduce excessive trim widths in accordance with workplace practices. 2.3 All creasers and slitter knives are set in accordance with the specifications of the job documentation. Range 2.4 following the setting of the first slitter knife, all subsequent knives are set (1mm from the first slitter knife, and all creasers are set (1mm crease to crease or crease to knife; faces of all slitter knives are square to each other; creaser bosses are aligned with each other. All creasers and slitter knives are securely locked onto the bar in accordance with workplace practices. Outcome 3 Slit and crease board during production. Evidence requirements 3.1 Slitter-creaser is operated in accordance with workplace practices and to meet job requirements. Range 3.2 running speed, safety requirements; required quality – clean slits, clean bends at crease lines, liners not split at creases. Lateral adjustments are made at the start of each new production run ensuring minimum waste is produced in accordance with the requirements of workplace practices. Competenz SSB Code 101571 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA Expiring unit standard 3775 version 7 Page 3 of 4 3.3 Trim waste is removed continuously from equipment in accordance with workplace practices. 3.4 Where trim waste suction systems are used, breaks in trim waste are reinserted into chutes immediately in accordance with workplace practices. 3.5 At an order change, no turnover is made until confirmation is provided that the existing run is completed in accordance with workplace practices. 3.6 Diverting ramps, where present, are operated in accordance with production requirements and workplace practices. Outcome 4 Maintain equipment in good condition. Evidence requirements 4.1 Equipment is cleaned in accordance with workplace practices. 4.2 Damaged and blunt slitter knife blades are replaced or maintained in accordance with workplace practices. 4.3 Stocks of spare equipment are stored in accordance with workplace practices. Outcome 5 Follow safety requirements for the equipment being used. Range operating manual, workplace practices. Evidence requirements 5.1 Start up, shutdown and emergency procedures in the workplace are explained. 5.2 Hazard control measures, as circulated by the company, are described and followed. 5.3 Hazards or potential hazards in the workplace are identified and reported in accordance with workplace practices. 5.4 Nip points on the slitter-creaser are identified. Range includes at least those nip points between – rotating slitter and creaser bosses, bosses moving horizontally along shafts, movement of diverting ramps (where these are present).
