Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, and workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments. 2 This unit standard covers the cleaning of either a tubing machine or a bottoming machine depending on the process being undertaken in the workplace. 3 Definition workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Prepare the tubing or bottoming machine for clean up in accordance with workplace practices. Competenz SSB Code 101565 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 25743 version 2 Page 2 of 3 Evidence requirements 1.1 Check is undertaken to ensure the machine is safely switched off and locked out before cleaning is commenced. 1.2 Former parts are removed from the machine and checked for any wear and defects. 1.3 Former parts’ maintenance is carried out as a result of the checks undertaken in evidence requirement 1.2. Outcome 2 Clean tubing or bottoming machine and surrounding area in accordance with workplace practices. Evidence requirements 2.1 Equipment and materials most suitable for cleaning the machine are selected and used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. 2.2 Gluing system is checked for any wear, and is cleaned and excess glue and build-up is removed from glue nipples. Reclaimed glue is returned to store for re-use, or disposed of, in accordance with product requirements. 2.3 Machine components are dismantled, removed for cleaning, and checked for defects and wear. Any defects found are rectified or reported. 2.4 Base and underneath of machine are cleaned of print ink and glue residue. 2.5 Machine is blown-down top to bottom, and grease and oil are removed from components and housings. 2.6 Work area surrounding the machine is cleaned. 2.7 Waste control procedures for used cleaning agents and waste materials are followed in accordance with product requirements. Range recyclable waste, non-recyclable waste, security waste, product requirements. 2.8 Checks are undertaken to ensure machine is safe to operate once cleaning is finished, and all guarding is replaced or repositioned in safe working order before tubing machine is locked in again. 2.9 Noticeable faults and wear to machine and/or components are documented and reported.
