Purpose This unit standard is intended for those specialising in the hot dipping area of the hot dip galvanizing process.
People credited with this unit standard are able to plan, perform, direct, and monitor quality of dross removal from the galvanizing kettle for hot dip galvanizing

2 Health and safety procedures must be followed in accordance with workplace and legislative requirements for all tasks leading to assessment against this standard.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used throughout operations in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer’s instructions.
3 Definition
Company procedures refer to all documented policies and procedures of the candidate’s employer at the time of training including, but not limited to, those relating to health, safety, environment, quality, and operations.

Evidence requirements
1.1 Dross removal requirements are determined in accordance with company procedures.
1.2 Staffing requirements and timing for dross removal activities are planned and communicated in accordance with company procedures.
Outcome 2
Perform and direct the removal of dross from a galvanizing kettle for hot dip galvanizing.
Evidence requirements
2.1 Dross is removed from kettle in accordance with company procedures and with minimal zinc drag out.
Range all dross is removed, dross is cut and/or vibrated.
2.2 Dross is transferred to mould without spillage in accordance with company procedures.
2.3 Components in dross are separated and disposed of in accordance with company procedures.
Outcome 3
Monitor quality of the dross removal process for hot dip galvanizing.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Consistency of the dross removal processes is monitored in accordance with company procedures.
3.2 Where applicable, records of dross removal are kept in accordance with company procedures.
