This unit standard is designed for supervisors working at a hot
dip galvanizing facility.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate
knowledge of legislation and advisory documents relating to
health and safety in a hot dip galvanizing facilities; and
supervise health and safety at a hot dip galvanizing facility.

Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995;
AS/NZS 4680:2006 Hot-dip galvanized (zinc) coatings on fabricated ferrous articles,

Codes of practice approved by the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Service,
available at http://www.osh.govt.nz including:
Approved Code of Practice for Cranes (2009);
Approved Code of Practice for the Management of Noise in the Workplace (2002);

Approved Code of Practice for the Management of Substances Hazardous to Health

Definitions
Company procedures refer to all documented policies and procedures of the
candidate’s employer at the time of training including, but not limited to, those relating
to health, safety, environment, quality, and operations.
Advisory documents refer to codes of practice, standards, and guidelines.

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of legislation and advisory documents relating to health and
safety in a hot dip galvanizing facilities.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Legislation and advisory documents relating to health and safety are identified
and their key principles are outlined.
Outcome 2
Supervise health and safety at a hot dip galvanizing facility.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Health and safety hazards are identified, evaluated, controlled, and monitored in
accordance with relevant OSH Codes of Practice and Guidelines, legislative
requirements, and company procedures.
2.2
Supervision ensures that health and safety recording and reporting
requirements are met in accordance with legislative requirements and company
procedures.
2.3
Supervision ensures that health and safety incidents are investigated in
accordance with legislative requirements and company procedures.

Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies
to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The
CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing
to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors
and assessors, and special resource requirements.
