Organisational procedures refer to the verbal or written procedures for camera set-up and
operation, communications etiquette, reporting faulty equipment, equipment storage, and
safe work practices.
Operational requirements refer to the verbal and written procedures for camera set-up and
operation which is specific to the racetrack, location, and role of the camera on the
racetrack.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Set up a tri-pod or fixed camera support for a television camera for racing broadcasting.
Performance criteria
1.1
Types of camera support are described in terms of their uses and limitations.
Range
tri-pod, head and mount.
1.2
Camera support is selected in accordance with operational requirements and
organisational procedures.
1.3
Spider or spreader is attached in a manner which gives the required stability to
the tri-pod.
Element 2
Mount and prepare a television camera to operate for racing broadcasting.
Performance criteria
2.1
Camera support is set at height in accordance with operational requirements
and personal comfort.
2.2
Camera and tripod are secured from toppling with sandbags or strops.
2.3
Base or snap plate is fixed to camera and camera attached to tripod in
accordance with manufacturer’s requirements.
2.4
Camera is confirmed as level and balanced before use in accordance with
operational requirements.
2.5
Tension is confirmed in terms of operating requirements.
2.6
Head is moved without sticking or jumping.
2.7
Cables are attached to camera in accordance with organisational procedures.
2.8
Head is locked or unlocked in accordance with organisational procedures.
Element 3
De-rig a television camera used for racing broadcasting.
Performance criteria
3.1
Cables are removed from camera in accordance with organisational procedures
and manufacturer’s specifications.

3.2
Tension is removed from camera head according to manufacturer’s
specifications.
3.3
Camera is removed from tri-pod or fixed camera support in accordance with
organisational procedures and manufacturer’s specifications.
3.4
Camera, tripod, ancillary camera equipment and cables are stored in
accordance with organisational procedures.
3.5
Any faulty or damaged equipment is reported in accordance with organisational
procedures.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
