They may be new to the industry, from school or another industry, or they may be already working in the industry without a qualification. This qualification is also relevant to pre apprenticeship programmes relevant to infrastructure works. The qualification gives the graduate an understanding of the infrastructure works industry and the health, safety and environmental knowledge required to work safely on site and with others. These people will work under direct supervision. Graduate profile Graduates of this qualification will be able to: - Outcome Statement - Apply an understanding of the infrastructure works industry and the specific health, safety and environmental requirements needed to work safely and responsibly with others on infrastructure works sites. Perform basic infrastructure works activities. Education pathway This is an entry level qualification to the infrastructure works qualifications pathways; which leads to the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 3) [Ref: 2523], and/or the New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works Plant and Equipment Operation (Level 3) with an optional strand in Specialist Plant [Ref: 2521] Employment pathway Graduates of this qualification will likely be employed as labourers in a broad range of sectors within the infrastructure works industry in the following contexts: Qualification Reference 2522 © New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2014 - civil works Page 1 of 4 - rural contracting surfacing operations underground utilities Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification will be awarded by the accredited organisation with whom the graduate has been enrolled. The certificate will display the logos of the NZQF and the accredited organisation. Evidence requirements for assuring consistency of graduate outcomes Each tertiary education organisation (TEO) is responsible for deciding what specific evidence it will provide to demonstrate how well its graduates meet the graduate profile outcomes at the appropriate threshold. The following is core evidence which may be provided for NZCIW L2 consistency reviews: - Internal and external moderation processes and results relating to the assessment of graduate outcomes Feedback, and actions taken by the TEO in response to feedback Programme completion data and course results Any other relevant evidence. Credit transfer will be automatic where assessment standards are used for assessment within programmes of study or training leading to this qualification. Recognition of current competence (RCC) acknowledges the skills and knowledge from work and experience, or from courses of study undertaken. Assessment of RCC may be conducted by an assessor appointed by Infrastructure ITO, or by an organisation with consent to assess. Conditions for programme context TEOs offering programmes leading to this qualification must maintain currency with amendments to, and replacements of, relevant legislation, regulations, rules, and Australia/New Zealand standards. Must include: Credits 24 Optional Mandatory use and care of hand tools, and maintenance of basic machinery used for infrastructure works activities hand spreading, and assisting with compacting materials for infrastructure works following instructions and communicating with site personnel and Page 3 of 4 - the public (as required) regarding infrastructure works site activities responsibilities as an employee and team member, including accurate work records, and accident and incident reporting. May include: - Optional additional learning in LLN to ensure trainees are able to communicate and keep records (which may include measurement and calculations) to a work standard. Transition information Replacement information This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 2) with optional strands in Earthworks, Pavement Surfacing, Roads, Rural Contracting, and Utilities [Ref: 1660]. People currently working towards any of the replaced qualifications may either complete the requirements for that qualification by 31 December 2017 or transfer to this qualification. It is important to note that the replaced qualification is substantially different to the new qualification, and may relate to more than one new qualification. The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualification is 31 December 2016. It is the intention of Infrastructure ITO that no existing trainee should be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. Any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the Infrastructure ITO.
