Strategic purpose statement
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the laundry industry
with people who have the skills and knowledge required to work
as laundry processors within both small and large commercial
laundry operations, or within on-premise laundries.
This qualification is suitable for people new to the laundry
industry, or to recognise the specific technical skills and
knowledge of people already employed as laundry processors.
Graduates will be capable of working safely to prepare, process
and dispatch laundry as part of a team under general supervision
of a supervisor or team leader, in accordance with organisational
procedures.
The additional skills and knowledge required to work in
washrooms within a laundry operation is included as an optional
strand to allow for organisations that restrict access to
washrooms in accordance with their operating procedures.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

Comply with basic health and safety requirements in a
laundry

Maintain hygiene requirements in a laundry

Apply communication skills, and work as a member of a
team within a laundry.

People who work in laundry businesses that also offer
drycleaning services may also progress to the New Zealand

Certificate in Drycleaning (Level 3) [Ref: 2430].
Employment pathway
Holders of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to
work as laundry processors in a range of business settings such
as laundromats, commercial laundry operations, and on-premise
laundries such as those in residential care and hospital facilities.
Qualification specifications
Qualification award
This qualification can be awarded by an organisation which
has an approved programme of study, or industry training
programme leading to the qualification.
The certificate will display the logos of the NZQF; and may
display the name and/or logo of the awarding body.
Arrangements for managing
consistency
All TEOs either arranging training or delivering programmes
that lead to the award of the qualification are required to
participate in a consistency process scheduled by NZQA.
This will involve reviewing evidence associated with
graduate’s achievement of outcomes, and agreeing
acceptable thresholds for qualification outcome
achievement, and areas for improvement.
To demonstrate how graduates are achieving the
qualification graduate profile outcomes, TEOs are required
to produce their own evidence in a high level report.
Evidence will include the following:
 Employer surveys to determine if graduates of the
qualification meet the graduate profile outcomes.
 Evidence of effective processes to ensure programmes
continue to meet current industry needs.
 A range of workplace evidence demonstrating that
graduates meet the graduate profile outcomes.
 Any other relevant evidence as appropriate.

Credit transfer and recognition of
prior learning arrangements
Organisations seeking approval to award the qualification
are expected to have RCC or RPL assessment processes in
place. Credit transfer will be automatic where assessment
standards are used for assessment within programmes of
study or training leading to this qualification.

Replacement information
This qualification replaces the National Certificate in Laundry (Finishing
and Packing) (Level 1) [Ref: 0579] and the National Certificate in Laundry
(Washroom Procedures) (Level 1) [Ref: 0580].
The last date for entry into programmes leading to replaced qualifications [Ref: 0579] and [Ref: 0580] is
31 December 2014. The last date to meet the requirements of replaced qualifications is 31 December
2015, at which time they will be designated as discontinued.
Existing candidates may either complete the replaced qualifications or transfer to the New Zealand
Certificate in Laundry Processing (Level 2) [Ref: 2431].
