Graduates will have the technical skills and knowledge required for the safe and efficient operation of complex plant and equipment used to prepare, form, and press composite wood panel products. Understand production processes used in composite wood panel manufacture. Apply a range of skills and knowledge to support the control of costs, product quality and performance improvement in a complex composite wood panel manufacturing operation. Use composite panel manufacturing plant and equipment to produce quality products and meet productivity requirements. Monitor production parameters, and identify operating and equipment faults and take corrective actions required to control complex composite panel manufacturing plant and equipment. Carry out plant and equipment preventative maintenance and cleaning. This qualification can lead to higher level qualifications in health and safety or management. Composite wood panel operators can progress to plant or operations management roles. These roles require further skills and knowledge in operations management or process technical Page 1 of 4 skills usually gained through diploma or degree level qualifications in engineering or business management. Employment pathway Holders of this qualification will have the knowledge required to work as preparation, forming, or pressing operators in a composite wood panel manufacturing environment. Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification can be awarded by an organisation which has an approved programme of study or industry training programme leading to the qualification. The certificate will display the logo of the NZQF and Competenz and may display the name and/or logo of the awarding body. Arrangements for managing consistency All TEOs either arranging training or delivering programmes that lead to the award of the qualification are required to participate in a consistency process scheduled by NZQA. This will involve reviewing evidence associated with graduate’s achievement of outcomes, and agreeing acceptable thresholds for qualification outcome achievement, and areas for improvement. To demonstrate how graduates are achieving the qualification graduate profile outcomes, TEOs are required to produce their own evidence in a high level report. Evidence will include the following: Employer surveys to determine if graduates of the qualification meet the graduate profile outcomes. Evidence of effective processes to ensure programmes continue to meet current industry needs. A range of workplace evidence demonstrating that graduates meet the graduate profile outcomes. Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning arrangements Organisations seeking approval to award the qualification are expected to have Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment processes in place. People currently working towards Ref: 1309 may complete the qualification by 31 December 2018 or transfer their results to the replacement New Zealand qualifications. People wishing to complete Ref: 1309 with the Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) and Plywood Operations strand will need to gain credit for expiring standard 20768 by 31 December 2015 when it expires. The last date for enrolments into Ref: 1309 is 31 December 2015. The last date for assessments to take place for this qualification is 31 December 2018. It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.
