NZQA Expiring unit standard 5440 version 5 Page 1 of 4 Title Identify tyre applications for tractors and agricultural machinery, and remove and replace tyres Level 3 Credits 4 Purpose This unit standard is for people in the automotive repair industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of tractor and agricultural machinery tyre types and sizes; demonstrate knowledge of tyre damage, repair techniques, and maintenance requirements; demonstrate knowledge of tractor wheels; and remove and replace tractor tyres. Classification Motor Industry > Tyres Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes The following legislation and amendments are required to be consulted and followed where applicable: – Health and Safety in Employment Act, 1992. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of tractor and agricultural machinery tyre types and sizes. Evidence requirements 1.1 Tyre patterns are described and applicable use identified for each type according to tyre manufacturer’s specifications. Range 1.2 basic lug pattern – directional; angle of lugs, length of lug to centre line, industrial lug; grass or turf pattern; flotation and soil compaction; front non-driving tyres – tri-rib, broken tri-rib, multi-rib. Tyre sizes are defined according to tyre manufacturer’s specifications. Range measurement relating to rim diameter and tyre section width, low profile aspect ratio, side wall markings – speed and loading indexing characteristics. Please note Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Consent requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Conesnt and Moderation Requirements (CMR).
