Strategic purpose statement
This qualification is for people commencing a career in the
roadmarking industry. They may be new to the industry or from
another industry, or they may be already working in the industry
without a qualification.
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the roadmarking
industry with skilled operators who were able to safely and
proficiently carry out remarking activities.
Graduates of this qualification will be able to operate
autonomously.
Graduate profile
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

Operate an applicator for remark work safely and proficiently
on a roadmarking site.

Supervise a small team and take responsibility for the tasks
and activities on a roadmarking site.
Graduates with the optional strand in Raised Pavement Markers
will also be able to:

Remove and install raised pavement markers on a
roadmarking site.
Education pathway
This qualification leads to the New Zealand Certificate in
Roadmarking (Level 4) with an optional strand in Testing
[Ref: 3236].
Employment pathway
Graduates of this qualification may be employed as Roadmarking
Plant Operators.

This qualification will be awarded by an organisation which has
an approved programme, or industry training programme leading
to the qualification.

Transition information
Replacement information
This qualification replaced the National Certificate in
Roadmarking (Operator) with strands in A-Type Applicator; and
B-Type Applicator; and with optional strands in Raised Pavement
Markers; Temporary Traffic Management on Level 2 and 3
Roads; and Transport [Ref: 1303].
People currently working towards the replaced qualification may either complete the requirements for that
qualification by 31 December 2019 or transfer to this qualification. It is important to note that the replaced
qualification is substantially different to the new qualification.
The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualification is 31 December 2017.
It is the intention of Infrastructure ITO that no existing trainee should be disadvantaged by these transition
arrangements. Any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the qualification
