Graduates of this qualification can benefit the community and the economy of New Zealand in terms of tourism revenue and recreational experiences. Outcome Statement Graduate profile Graduates of this qualification will be able to: apply knowledge of own organisation and take responsibility for own professional conduct and development while carrying out role as a member of a team in an alpine resort; apply knowledge of the unique characteristics and operations of an alpine resort to guide own practice; identify risks and respond to hazards while applying safe working procedures and practices within an alpine resort operation; apply communication skills and customer service techniques to respond to the needs of alpine resort guests. Education pathway This qualification provides a pathway to more specialised qualifications in the field of alpine operations. Page 1 of 4 Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification will be awarded by the accredited provider that has provided the training leading to its award. The formal certification document will include the NZQF logo, the Skills Active Aotearoa logo, and the logo of the tertiary education organisation (TEO) providing the programme. Evidence requirements for assuring consistency All TEOs either arranging or delivering programmes that lead to the award of the qualification are required to participate in a consistency process scheduled by NZQA. Further information can be found on the NZQA website. All TEOs will be required to provide evidence during the consistency process to demonstrate how graduates have met the graduate profile. Critical evidence relevant to this qualification will include the following: Minimum standard of achievement and standards for grade endorsements industry feedback; self-evaluation (e.g. programme evaluation reports, moderation outcomes); graduate feedback; progression/destination information; evidence of relevant learning experience undertaken in an industry workplace/environment; portfolio of relevant experience including learner selfevaluation (where appropriate); any other relevant evidence as appropriate. General conditions for the programme leading to the qualification General conditions for programme All learning and assessment within a programme leading to this qualification must be carried out in accordance with the following: ˗ relevant legislation including Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, Fair Trading Act 1986, Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Privacy Act 1993, and Human Rights Act 1993; ˗ alpine industry Codes including the Snow Responsibility Code and the Outdoor Safety Code; ˗ organisational policies and procedures including Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). TEOs must have a relationship with an alpine resort to ensure learners have exposure and experience in a realistic workplace environment. Credits 12 2 3 Apply knowledge of the unique characteristics and operations of an alpine resort to guide own practice. Programmes should include the following: Credits 5 ˗ ˗ Identify risks and respond to hazards while applying safe working procedures and practices within an alpine resort operation. Programmes should include risks and hazards specific to an alpine environment, including snow, sun, and chair lifts. ˗ the unique environment of an alpine resort, including altitude, weather, snow, and the use of communication equipment and tools in the alpine environment; the impact of the sector on local and international tourism understanding the social, economic, and cultural, benefits of participation for community and individuals. Credits 13 4 Apply communication skills and customer service techniques to respond to the needs of alpine resort guests. Credits 10 Programmes should include the following: ˗ ˗ team work, including cross-team collaboration to ensure guests receive an appropriate experience as they journey across departments; contributing towards a positive guest experience including understanding guest profile and communicating appropriately and effectively with diverse cultures, ages and abilities. Transition information Replacement information This qualification replaces the National Certificate in Recreation and Sport (Core Skills) (Level 2) [Ref: 1710]. Trainees currently enrolled in programmes leading to the replaced qualification may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2019 or transfer to New Zealand Certificate in Alpine Resort Operations (Level 3) [Ref: 3224]. The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualification is 31 December 2017. The last date for award of the replaced qualification is 31 December 2019, at which time it will be designated as discontinued. It is the intention of Skills Active Aotearoa that no existing trainee should be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.
