This is an entry level qualification for people intending to enter or who are already working in the boat building sector, in the production of alloy or composite boats. Graduates will have the specialised knowledge and skills required to manufacture alloy or composite boats in a production environment. Education pathway This qualification may build on from the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 1, 2 or 3. Graduates of this qualification may progress to: - Employment pathway New Zealand Certificate in Business (First Line Management) (Level 4) [Ref: 2456] New Zealand Certificate in Project Management (Level 4) [Ref: 2462] New Zealand Diploma in Composites (Level 6) [Ref: 3059] or higher level qualifications in the design sector. Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to work in a range of unsupervised roles in the marine or composite industry dependent upon the strand of achievement. These may include: - Alloy Production Boat builder Composite Production Boat builder Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification may be awarded by any organisation with an approved programme of study or industry training programme. Evidence requirements for assuring consistency Evidence may include: - assessment information leading to the achievement of the graduate outcomes - a portfolio of learner work relating to the qualification and the annual review focus requirements - graduate and/or stakeholder/end-user feedback on outcome achievement - moderation outcomes which may include moderation/benchmarking across common programmes. Credits 60 Transition information Replacement information This qualification and qualifications Ref: 3026 and Ref: 3057 replaced the National Certificate in Boatbuilding (Level 4) with strands in Marine Cabinetmaking, Composite Sparmaking, Alloy Boatbuilding, Marine Rigging, Interior and Exterior Marine Painting, Composite Boatbuilding, Steel Boatbuilding, Wooden Boatbuilding, Marine Systems Engineering, Metal Sparmaking, Composite Production Trailer Boats, and Alloy Production Trailer Boats [Ref: 0877]. People currently working towards the expiring national qualification may choose to complete that qualification or transfer their results to the replacement New Zealand qualification. The last date for entry into programmes leading to these replaced qualification is 31 December 2016. The last date for assessment against the replaced qualifications is 31 December 2018. It is not intended that any existing candidates are disadvantaged by this review.
