This is an entry level qualification for people intending to enter or who are already working in the boat building sector, in the refit or construction of vessels. Graduates will have the specialised knowledge and skills for the protective and decorative coating of substrates in a marine environment. Outcome Statement Graduate profile Graduates of this qualification will be able to: - apply health and safety practices to ensure own and others safety and minimise potential hazards and environmental risk in a boat building work environment - collaborate and contribute to the achievement of team objectives in a boat building work environment - apply specific industry knowledge and terminology to communicate effectively; and behave in a professional manner with colleagues, managers, and customers - select and use a range of products, materials, hand and power tools and plant and equipment relevant to common tasks for boat building. This qualification may build on from the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 1, 2 or 3. Graduates of this qualification may progress to - Employment pathway New Zealand Certificate in Business (First Line Management) (Level 4) [Ref: 2456] New Zealand Certificate in Project Management (Level 4) [Ref: 2462] New Zealand Diploma in Composites (Level 6) [Ref: 3059] or higher level qualifications in the design sector. Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to work in unsupervised roles in the refit and construction of boats industry related to the coating exterior or interior substrates. These may include: - Exterior Marine Painter Interior Marine Painter Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification may be awarded by any organisation with an approved programme of study or industry training programme. Evidence requirements for assuring consistency Evidence may include: - assessment information leading to the achievement of the graduate outcomes a portfolio of learner work relating to the qualification and the annual review focus requirements graduate and/or stakeholder/end-user feedback on outcome achievement moderation outcomes which may include moderation/ benchmarking across common programmes. The current version of the following documents must be complied with: - Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995 Hazardous Substances & New Organisms (HSNO) Act 2001. Training and programmes must reflect current practice and maintain currency with amendments to, and replacements of relevant legislation, regulations and Australia/New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS). NZ Marine and Composites ITO advises graduates of this qualification to become certified as a Handler for hazardous substances. Certified handlers are able to manage hazardous substances, without supervision. Page 4 of 5 People currently working towards the expiring national qualification may choose to complete that qualification or transfer their results to the replacement New Zealand qualification. The last date for entry into programmes leading to these replaced qualification is 31 December 2016. The last date for assessment against the replaced qualifications is 31 December 2018. It is not intended that any existing candidates are disadvantaged by this review.
