This qualification will provide for those individuals who are working as glaziers a credential that will support their career opportunities across a range of companies in the glass sector. Graduates of this qualification will be able to work to the required safety, technical, quality, and productivity standards, providing customers with confidence in the products they receive. The strands in the qualification enable candidates to gain skills and knowledge specific to the sector of the glass industry they are working in. Outcome Statement Graduate profile Graduates of this qualification will be able to: - apply codes of practice, industry standards and relevant regulations to the installation of glass items - apply specifications, sketches and plans to support the installation of glass items - cut flat glass - optimise procurement, materials, and work methods to produce glass items expected in a commercial environment. Graduates of this qualification may choose to progress into Page 1 of 6 further study of other New Zealand construction related trades or management qualifications at levels 4, 5 and 6. Employment pathway Graduates of this qualification will be people already working in the glass industry as glaziers (residential glazier, commercial glazier, or frameless glazier). Graduates may also obtain employment within the glazing industry as a: - supervisor - technical representative - sales representative. Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification may be awarded by the BCITO as the qualification developer and the industry training organisation arranging training leading to the qualification under section 5 of the Industry Training Act 1992. This qualification may also be awarded by an education provider recognised as a programme owner accredited under section 259 of the Education Act 1989 to deliver a programme leading to this qualification. The formal document certifying the award of this qualification will display the NZQF logo and may also include the name or logo of the qualification developer and/or other awarding body. Evidence requirements for assuring consistency All education organisations delivering programmes that lead to the award of the qualification are required to participate in a consistency process scheduled by NZQA. This will involve review of evidence associated with graduates’ achievement of outcomes, and agreeing acceptable thresholds for qualification outcome achievement, and areas for improvement. To demonstrate how graduates are achieving the qualification graduate profile outcomes, TEOs are required to produce their own evidence in a high level report. Evidence may include the following: - programme statistics such as completion data and graduate destination data evidence from internal and/or external moderation processes documentation of processes that ensure programmes continue to meet current industry needs regular feedback gathered from learners and employers any other relevant evidence as appropriate. There are no grade endorsements for this qualification. Other requirements for the qualification (including regulatory body or legislative requirements) Candidates need to complete the New Zealand Certificate in Glass (Level 3) [Ref: 2944], or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills, before enrolling in a programme leading to this qualification. General conditions for the programme leading to the qualification General conditions for programme Candidate undertaking programmes leading to the award of this qualification will be required to complete the core graduate outcomes and one of the strands. TEOs arranging training or delivering programmes towards this qualification must ensure that the training arranged, and programmes of learning delivered, are kept up-to-date with regard to amendments to, and replacements of relevant legislation, regulations and Australia/New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS). The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualification is 31 December 2017. The last date for assessment against this qualification is 31 December 2020, at which time it will be designated as discontinued. Candidates may either complete the replaced qualification or transfer to the New Zealand Certificate in Glazing (Level 4) with strands in Residential Glazing, Commercial Glazing, and Frameless Glazing [Ref: 2945]. It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to BCITO at the address below. Appeals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
