Learners will benefit by having a qualification that provides formal recognition of the broad skills and knowledge of poultry section management, and provides a pathway for further training and enhanced employment options. The poultry industry will benefit by having section managers who can pathway from carrying out core tasks in poultry production to poultry management in a poultry facility, and provide a sustainable workforce at a senior level. This qualification is targeted at poultry employees who aspire to move from a poultry production role and pathway into a management role in a poultry section. Graduates will be capable of working in a self-managed capacity under broad guidance and may be supervising others. Graduate profile Graduates of the qualification will be able to: implement and maintain a work plan for a team of colleagues in a specific section of a poultry facility to help meet production targets manage a section in either egg production, hatchery or livebird production within a poultry facility Education pathway This qualification may build on the New Zealand Certificate in Poultry Production (Level 3) with strands in Hatchery and Livebird Production [Ref:2932] and may lead on to the New Zealand Diploma in Agribusiness Management (Level 5) [Ref: 2221]. Employment pathway Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to be employed as section managers of a poultry operation within in a poultry facility. Qualification Reference 2933 © New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2015 Page 1 of 4 Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification may be awarded by the Primary ITO as the qualification developer and the industry training organisation arranging training leading to the qualification under section 5 of the Industry Training Act 1992. This qualification may also be awarded by an education organisation accredited under section 250 of the Education Act 1989 to deliver an approved programme leading to this qualification. The formal document certifying the award of this qualification will display the NZQF logo and may also include the name and/or logo of the awarding education organisation. Evidence requirements for assuring consistency All education organisations offering programmes leading to the qualification must engage with arrangements for managing consistency, including covering actual and reasonable related costs. Each education organisation is responsible for deciding what specific evidence it will provide to demonstrate how well its graduates meet the graduate profile outcomes of the qualification. Evidence of the following must be provided: Student feedback on course delivery and qualification achievement, their perception of the value of the training, and suggestions for improvements. Feedback from employers on the level of skills, knowledge and behaviour demonstrated by graduates of the qualification. Evidence of effective internal quality assurance systems. Portfolios of work and/or assessment samples demonstrating the range of student performance within a programme. Tertiary education organisations (TEOs) can also provide any other relevant evidence that supports the consistency review. Minimum standard of achievement and standards for grade endorsements The minimum standard of achievement required for award of the qualification will be the achievement of all graduate outcomes in the graduate profile through successful completion of an NZQA approved programme. Other requirements for the qualification (including regulatory body or legislative requirements) N/A General conditions for the programme leading to the qualification General conditions for programme It is recommended that learners who wish to manage an egg processing operation need to have completed the New Zealand Certificate in Primary Industry Skills Level 2 [Ref:2218] in an Egg Processing context. It is recommended that learners who wish to manage a hatchery or livebird operation should have completed the New Zealand Qualification Reference 2933 © New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2015 Page 2 of 4 Certificate in Poultry Production (Level 3) [Ref:2932] in the appropriate Hatchery or Livebird Production strand. This qualification may be achieved in an egg production, hatchery or poultry livebird production operation (in a caged, colony, barn or free range environment). Compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, sustainable practices and animal welfare standards applies across all outcomes. Page 3 of 4 Learners currently enrolled in programmes leading to the replaced qualifications may either complete the requirements as specified below, or transfer their results to this replacement qualification. The last date for entry into programmes leading to the replaced qualifications is 31 December 2018. The last date for assessment of the replaced qualifications is 31 December 2020 at which time they will be designated as discontinued. It is the intention of Primary ITO that no existing learner should be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. Any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the Primary ITO.
