This qualification is designed for people already working in the industry. The strands recognise the specialist skills and knowledge required of a cabinet maker, a furniture finisher, a furniture upholsterer, or for the set up and control of CNC machinery in the furniture industry. Graduate profile Graduates of this qualification will be able to: - Apply an understanding of hazard and risk management, quality requirements, and improvement and workflow management principles, when carrying out their role - Undertake specific aspects of operational management that impact on the profitability, process improvement, or productivity of a furniture making business - Communication skills Outcome Statement Graduates of the Cabinetmaking strand will also be able to: Qualification Reference 2782 © New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2015 - Assemble a range of furniture components in a commercial cabinetmaking environment - Create drawings, cutting lists, and material quantity documentation for use in furniture manufacturing - Use advanced technical skills to set up machinery and manufacture components in a commercial cabinetmaking environment to meet customer and production requirements - Use advanced technical skills to operate machinery and Page 1 of 5 equipment used in a commercial cabinetmaking environment to meet customer and production requirements Graduates of the CNC strand will also be able to: - Programme, set up and operate CNC machines in a commercial cabinet making production environment - Produce advanced drawings using CAD software for CNC controlled machinery in a commercial cabinet making environment Graduates of the Furniture Finishing strand will also be able to: - Set up and maintain finishing product spray equipment, and finish furniture in a commercial furniture finishing environment - Prepare for and finish furniture using specialist techniques in a commercial furniture finishing environment Graduates of the Upholstery strand will also be able to: - Education pathway Prepare for and upholster furniture in a commercial furniture upholstery environment This qualification builds on either the: - New Zealand Certificate in Furniture (Level 2) with strands in Cabinetmaking, Furniture Finishing, and Upholstery [Ref: 2780] or - New Zealand Certificate in Furniture (Level 3) with strands in Cabinetmaking, Furniture Finishing, and Upholstery [Ref: 2781]. Graduates of this qualification can progress to operations management roles. These roles require further skills and knowledge in operations management usually gained through diploma or degree level qualifications in business management. Employment pathway Holders of this qualification will be equipped to work as qualified Cabinet Makers, Furniture Finishers, or Furniture Upholsterers, or to set up and control CNC machinery in the furniture industry. Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification can be awarded by an organisation which has an approved programme of study or industry training programme leading to the qualification. The certificate will display the logo of the NZQF and may display the name and/or logo of the awarding body. Evidence requirements for assuring consistency All TEOs either arranging training or delivering programmes that lead to the award of the qualification are required to participate in a consistency process scheduled by NZQA. This will involve reviewing evidence associated with graduate’s Qualification Reference 2782 © New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2015 Page 2 of 5 achievement of outcomes, and agreeing acceptable thresholds for qualification outcome achievement, and areas for improvement. To demonstrate how graduates are achieving the qualification graduate profile outcomes, TEOs are required to produce their own evidence in a high level report. Evidence will include the following: - Employer surveys to determine if graduates of the qualification meet graduate profile outcomes - Evidence of effective processes to ensure programmes continue to meet current industry needs - A range of workplace evidence demonstrating that graduates meet the graduate profile outcomes - Any other relevant evidence as appropriate Further information on the consistency process can be found on the NZQA website. Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning arrangements Organisations seeking approval to award the qualification are expected to have Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment processes in place. Credit transfer will be automatic where assessment standards are used for assessment within programmes of study or training leading to this qualification. The last date for entry into the replaced qualification is 31 December 2017. The last date for assessment against the replaced qualification is 31 December 2019 when the qualification will be discontinued. From that date no results can be reported against the replaced qualification. People currently working towards the replaced qualification may either complete the requirements by 31 December 2019 or transfer their results to the replacement qualification. It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.
