Graduates of this qualification will be able to: - apply knowledge of dairy science and engineering principles to evaluate and improve the collection, processing and storage of dairy products (20 credits) - interpret data and analyse and monitor production steps to maintain and improve product functionality, safety and quality (20 credits) - evaluate the various technologies used in the production of a range of dairy products to contribute to systems improvement (60 credits) Page 1 of 3 - develop own professional capabilities as a leader and manager of dairy processing staff. (20 credits) Education pathway This qualification could lead on from any New Zealand Certificate in Dairy Processing at levels 3, 4 or 5. Employment pathway Dairy processing technical specialists who are responsible for operating over more than one area in a dairy processing operation or operational and production managers who would combine this knowledge and skills with business management competencies required in their work role. Qualification specifications Qualification award This qualification will be awarded by the organisation which either has programme approval and accreditation or an approved industry training programme, and with whom the trainee is enrolled. The certificate will display the title of the qualification; the logos of the NZQF and NZITO; and the name and/or logo of the awarding body. Evidence requirements for managing consistency All education organisations offering programmes leading to the qualification must engage with arrangements for managing consistency, including covering actual and reasonable related costs. Each education organisation is responsible for deciding what specific evidence it will provide to demonstrate how well its graduates meet the graduate profile outcomes of the qualification. Evidence of the following must be provided: • Student feedback on course delivery and qualification achievement, their perception of the value of the training, and suggestions for improvements • Feedback from employers on the level of skills, knowledge and behaviour demonstrated by graduates of the qualification • Evidence of effective internal quality assurance systems • Portfolios of work and/or assessment samplesdemonstrating the range of student performance within a programme TEOs can also provide any other relevant evidence that supports the consistency review. Entry requirements (including prerequisites to meet regulatory body or legislative requirements) It is recommended that candidates hold NCEA Level 3 in science and maths or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. A minimum of one year’s practical industry experience in the dairy industry is also required.
