For assessment, candidates must demonstrate competence in the workplace through paid or unpaid employment, or in placements in a service provider workplace negotiated by an education provider. 4 Candidates’ practice must reflect appropriate values, processes, and protocols in relation to working with Māori and Pacific peoples and/or people from other cultures, in a range of settings and environments. 5 Definitions Client in the context of this unit standard refers to a person accessing services in a health or disability setting. Clients, who may also be known as consumers, patients, or tūroro in particular contexts and settings, may include outpatients in a medical facility. An item of a client’s personal belongings may include but is not limited to – mobility aid, hearing aid, visual aid. Medical equipment related to client care refers to equipment provided by a medical facility, which may include but is not limited to – drips, monitors, beds, incubators, resuscitators, ventilators. Organisation’s policies and procedures are the policies and procedures of the employing organisation of the candidate and include ethical codes, standards, and other organisational requirements. Transport in the context of this unit standard refers to conveying an item to a destination that is not a medical facility. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Collect and transport items related to client care when working as an orderly in a health or disability context. Range evidence is required for – clinical and/or medical records; six items of medical equipment related to client care; one blood or tissue specimen; one item required under urgency; one item of a client’s personal belongings. Evidence requirements 1.1 Items related to client care are collected and transported in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures and/or the manufacturer’s specifications. 1.2 Items related to client care are collected and transported in a manner that does not endanger the health and safety of self and others. 1.3 Items related to client care are collected and transported in a manner that maintains the security of the items. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
