Purpose
This qualification is an entry level qualification for people starting or who have recently
started working in marina administration or operations.
There is a compulsory section and two strand options that candidates select according to
whether they work or are intending to work in marina administration or operations.
The compulsory section covers skills and knowledge related to marina administration and
operations, including marina and marine industry knowledge, health and safety, electrical
regulations, environmental knowledge, customer service, security, and communication.
Both strands have elective choices from a wide range of domains that enable the
candidate to customise the qualification to their work situation and interest.
Those people who achieve the qualification with the Administration strand may progress to
the National Certificate in Marine Sales and Services (Marine Retail and Distribution)
(Level 4) [Ref: 1472]. Those people who achieve the qualification with the Operations
strand may progress to the National Certificate in Boatbuilding (Level 4) [Ref: 0877].
Special Notes
People in the workforce may have demonstrated competence in the outcomes specified in
individual standards in this qualification. These candidates should seek recognition of their
current competence wherever it is relevant to this qualification.
Recognition of current competence must be carried out by accredited providers or
registered assessors in accordance with NZQA guidelines.

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NZQF National Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications
Authority (NZQA) website: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/standards/standards-exclusionlist/.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
