Purpose
This qualification recognises the skills and knowledge required by people who have the
responsibility of storing goods in a seafood storage facility.
The qualification consists of a compulsory section, an elective section, and a balance
section. The compulsory section covers skills and knowledge that relate to inventory
control, storage, and good operating practices in seafood goods storage facilities. This is
a specific role in the seafood workplace and provides a firm foundation for employment.
The elective section allows the candidate to choose standards from the Seafood Generic,
Seafood Processing, Driver Licence Endorsements, Powered Industrial Lift Trucks, and
First Aid domains to complement their job role.
The balance section allows candidates added flexibility to enable them to choose
standards from anywhere on the Directory of Assessment Standards (DAS) that may be
relevant to their job role.
People who complete this qualification may continue on to the National Certificate in
Seafood Processing with strands in Basic Processing Skills, and Intermediate Processing
Skills [Ref: 1621] or the National Certificate in Seafood Risk Management (Processing
Quality) (Level 3) [Ref: 1647].

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NZQF National Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications
Authority (NZQA) website: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/standards/standards-exclusionlist/.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
